What all three traditions have in common:All three major <strong>Christian</strong> traditions hold:• Personal love for Jesus as supreme Saviour and Lord.• Submission to <strong>the</strong> Holy Scriptures as <strong>the</strong> authority for all faith andconduct.• Confession of an early <strong>Christian</strong> Creed.Note on Eastern Orthodoxy:<strong>The</strong> Oriental Orthodox churches (Coptic, Syrian, Armenian and Ethiopian)which have been separated from <strong>the</strong> Orthodox Church since <strong>the</strong> 5 th Centurybecause of <strong>the</strong>ir Monophysite teaching have now come toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong>Orthodox Church to try to reconcile <strong>the</strong>ir differences. An official dialogue tookplace at Chambésy (Geneva) between <strong>the</strong> two sides in December 1985. Asecond dialogue resulted in an ‘Agreed Statement’ issued from <strong>the</strong> AnbaBishoy Monastery, Egypt, in June 1989. A second ‘Agreed Statement’ came outof this dialogue in Chambésy in September 1990 through <strong>the</strong> Orthodox Centreof <strong>the</strong> Ecumenical Patriarchate.Page 234
