It is there where the totalitarianism can be felt.” 52 Professor Šlachta again summarized the opinion expressed in the public discussion at the SNG: “It is not important if I like it [the architecture of SNG] or not. Professor Matúš Dulla again – this time in the introduction to the architectural guide Slovenská architektúra od Jurkoviča po dnešok (Slovak Architecture from Jurkovič to the present day) – commented on the SNG extension: “The era that ventured to build large housing estates was also able to 116

At home we still perceive them as something connected with the freshly overthrown political period but for foreign visitors they are proof of a mature architectural culture hidden behind the iron curtain and under the label of a poorly functional political system. Let alone the fact that the possibilities provided by the strong hand of the state were often in compliance with what most architects’ desire: to be able to realise big dreams and big works.
