La función de
un presidente
de junta
directiva es
permitir a los
directores
sostener
discusiones
grupales
efectivas.
One of
the most
important
functions
of a chair
is to enable
directors to
have effective
group
discussions.
To enable it, leaders have to shift
away from defining team norms
and building trust, and focus on
uickly structuring and organiing collaborative
work.
anfred van der erwe of the etherlands,
who has chaired boards at 11
companies, has a structured onboarding
rocess for directors. He starts by having
a facetoface conversation with
each newly appointed director, during
which he describes the company, its
strategy, its key eecutives, and its
board, but most imortantly also
sets clear expectations.
Principle #3:
Own the Prep Work
Ineerienced chairs often think that
the job is all about managing the dynamics
in the boardroom. Experienced
ones, however, recognie that the meetings
are just the tip of the iceberg. A
great share of the chair’s work goes into
setting an agenda and putting together
a briefing ackage.
