Program conducted by Department of Health and Family Welfare<br />

With the aim of generating awareness regarding proper biomedical waste disposal among the public<br />

the Department of Health and Family Welfare organised a public awareness Rally as a part of the project<br />

“Environmentally Sound Management of Biomedical Waste in India” initiated by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial<br />

Development Organisation).<br />

Dr Raju, Regional Chief of UNIDO along with the Medical Superintendent of K.R. Hospital Dr Sreenivas, District<br />

Health Education Officer Dr Prakash, District Surgeon Dr Pashupathi and Dr Dinesh from M. S, Ramaiah Medical<br />

College and Teaching Hospital, Bangalore flagged off the rally.<br />

The rally commenced at 10:30 am in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple and passed through Gandhi Square<br />

Clock Tower, Sayyaji Rao Road and DevrajaUrs Road before culminating near the DC Office. The participants<br />

held placards with messages on proper disposal of Biomedical Waste and pamphlets on Waste Disposal were<br />

distributed to the by standers.<br />

World Tuberculosis Day –24-03-<strong>2018</strong><br />

World TB Day is an annual event, observed on March 24th every year, to raise public awareness about global<br />

burden of tuberculosis(TB), devastating health, social and economic impact of TB and also efforts to end the<br />

global TB epidemic.Theme for the year <strong>2018</strong> is: “Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world”.<br />

The theme focuses on building commitment to end TB, not only at the political level with Heads of State and<br />

Ministers of Health, but at all levels from parliamentarians and community leaders, to people affected with TB,<br />

civil society advocates, health workers, doctors or nurses, NGOs and other partners. All can be leaders of efforts<br />

to end TB in their own work or terrain.<br />

In this regard, awareness programme through “Quiz competition on TB” was organized for undergraduates by<br />

the Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, Mysuru, in association with District TB Office,<br />

Mysuru.
