The JSS Medical College also utilised the Exhibition forum to create awareness regarding the two leading<br />
cause of death in the world - cardiovascular diseases and cancers. On this occasion JSS Medical College,<br />
carried out a number of activities with the theme “Move up in life with healthy habits”. The exhibition was<br />
open for public from 13th to 18th, between 9 am to 9 pm.<br />
The exhibition sections from medical college<br />
1. Screening of hypertension and obesity: Team of young doctors carried out a comprehensive health<br />
checkups with healthy education. This opportunistic screening for high blood pressure has benefitted<br />
more than 2,500 people who got tested for hypertension and got predicted their 10 year risk for life<br />
style related diseases using WHO/ISH risk Prediction Chart.<br />
2. Health pyramid - food, exercise and cardiovascular disease prevention pyramid. The food pyramid<br />
emphasized on the eating of healthy foods. Second side of the pyramid was the exercise pyramid that<br />
highlighted the need for a structured physical activity & The third side of the pyramid was displayed<br />
information on the four levels (Primordial, Primary, Secondary and tertiary prevention of cardiovascular<br />
diseases<br />
3. SNAKE and LADDER game: To inculcate healthy lifestyle habits among young school going children this<br />
game was created wherein with each healthy habit, they moved up the ladder and with unhealthy habits<br />
they came down the snake. As this involved a lot of student interaction and involvement, thousands of<br />
children took part and enjoyed the game.<br />
4. Dengue prevention and control a 3D model :<br />
To create an awareness regarding depicting<br />
the various breeding places of Aedes Aegypti<br />
mosquito was created and general public were<br />
given health education regarding how to eliminate<br />
the breeding places of the aedes mosquito.<br />
5. Match the following game: was created where<br />
students had to identify the pictures and the<br />
diseases associated with it.<br />
6. Medical information charts, anatomical<br />
specimens and pathology information boards<br />
were displayed under theme – non communicable<br />
diseases (Cancer, Dengue, Tuberculosis,<br />
Myocardial infarction and Hypertension).<br />
7. Exhibition of documentaries related to non<br />
communicable diseases (Cancer, Diabetes,<br />
Hypertention), Dengue, Family planning,<br />
Diarrhea,HIV and food adultration were screened<br />
in a separate movie screening room.<br />
The second section of the stall was<br />
dedicated to Demonstration of detection of<br />
Food Adulteration: Under the guidance of Sri<br />
C V Nagaraj, Mysuru Grahakara Parishat, the<br />
demonstration of detection of food adulteration<br />
was arranged to bring awareness among the<br />
public about food adulteration. The tests which<br />
were done are simple and these tests can be<br />
done easily at home for detection of adulteration<br />
of butter (buffalo and/ or cow) ,butter (cow) ,<br />
edible oil, ghee , pulses and cereals , turmeric<br />
powder ,bura sugar , tea powder , toor dal.<br />
The Last section of the stall was dedicated to<br />
the :<br />
1. Dissected dead body was displayed for<br />
visualizing the internal organs in the thoracic and<br />
abdominal cavity for the benefit of public<br />
2. Fetuses from 2 - 9 months of age (babies<br />
before birth) were displayed to give an idea to the<br />
public how the baby looks in different phases.<br />
3. Different organs like lungs, heart, brain, liver,<br />
spleen, pancreas, uterus etc were displayed<br />
4. Operation Theatre set up was displayed to the<br />
public to give an idea about the Operation Theatre<br />
(OT) and to decrease the fear about operation.<br />
5. Plastinated specimen of different organs<br />
including delicate ear ossicles were displayed<br />
with the advantage of touch and feel experience<br />
by the visitors.<br />
Suttur jathra exhibition had been a creative, informative<br />
and unique way to exhibit heath care messages to<br />
general public. Kids were more excited to play the<br />
games, know about food adulteration detection & see<br />
anatomical specimens and OT Theater. Our hard work<br />
and dedication towards promoting positive health care<br />
knowledge to the public in the short span of intimation<br />
was appreciated by the large number of visitors who<br />
had come to the jathra mahothsava. We were happy to<br />
get II prize in the JSS institutions group.
