Student Exchange Program<br />

Dept of Public Health Dentistry<br />

The Students from La Trobe university visited the Department of Public Health Dentistry, where they were<br />

explained the various community oral health care activities of the department. The visiting students interacted<br />

with faculty and postgraduate and discussed about the curriculum in India. The host team had a discussion<br />

with Dr. Mark Gussy regarding the areas of mutual interests in research.<br />

Dept of Orthodontics<br />

The students were explained about the departmental activities like management of the patients and the<br />

teaching program for under graduate students.The students were allowed to watch the treatment procedures<br />

being performed by post graduate students and faculty.<br />

As a special highlight student also participated in the creative wire bending competition which was organized<br />

as a part of orthodontist day celebration.<br />

Students along with their Dean Dr Marc Gussy visited JSS Smile – Multi disciplinary Cleft Lip and Palate<br />

Outpatient Clinic where they learnt about the management of orofacial cleft conditions and appreciated the free<br />

services provided to the affected children.<br />

Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery<br />

They were made to observe the live demonstration of procedures like incision and drainage of various space<br />

infections, maxillofacial pathologies including cystic lesions, odontogenic tumours and facial trauma. The<br />

students accompanied the faculty to the ward rounds where they studied the various interesting cases and were<br />

explained about them. The team had an opportunity to visit the oncology wing of Bharat cancer hospital thus<br />

enlightening them about various treatment modalities like chemotherapy, surgical oncology, and radiotherapy<br />

with advanced radio-imaging modalities like nuclear medicine PET scan, IMRT and 3D radiotherapy.<br />

La Trobe University, Australia students visit to Suttur as part of the student exchange programme<br />

Dept or Oral Medicine and Radiology<br />

Dental student delegates from La Trobe University paid a brief visit to the Dept of Oral Medicine and Radiology<br />

on 28th September 2017. They were welcomed and addressed by Dr. Karthikeya Patil, HOD who briefed them<br />

on the scope of the subject and specialty work performed in the department. They were given a hands on<br />

experience in diagnosing oral disorders including oral submucous fibrosis, linchen planus etc.<br />

A short lecture on Oral Cancer and its diagnosis was given by Dr. Prasannasrinivas Deshpande, along with a<br />

demonstration on various diagnostic methods like the velscope.<br />

Dept of Periodontology<br />

The team visited the Department of Periodontology on 6th October 2017. They were oriented about the<br />

Department of Periodontology and the various clinical facilities available. A live video demonstration of Florida<br />

probe was given by Dr Mudit Kumar and Dr Avinash BS explaining the importance of new techniques and<br />

equipments for better patient education. The students were also shown a live video demonstration of surgical<br />

procedure of free gingival graft done by Dr Mudit Kumar assisted by Dr Sourav Chandra.<br />

The student delegates from La Trobe had a visit<br />

to Residential School, Suttur Sri kshetra on 27th<br />

September 2017 where they had interaction session<br />

with the school students followed by cultural program.<br />

Sports activities was organized at the same venue<br />

where the international students enthusiastically<br />

participated. Among the various sports the International<br />

student delegates chose to play Australian football.<br />

Australian footballs were distributed to students and<br />

a few donated to the school.
