f) Security
State of the art approaches to web security are followed to ensure privacy of student work
and information:
o Little or no FERPA-relevant information is stored on this server.
o The system software and hardware is accessible to appropriate faculty and staff
from the local artic.edu Instructional network, and from home, in each case through
SAIC’s standard LDAP secure authentication.
o Non-IS users are only granted web application access to system.
o Teaching faculty are only granted access to their data relevant to their own courses.
o Supervising faculty in charge of report generation and preparation for accreditation
tasks are granted global access to the archived data through the search protocol.
g) Backup
Digital Documents are incrementally backed up at least once per month. Database are
backed up at least once per week.
h) Storage
The software and hardware of these two systems stores and retrieves an archive of student
documents in the Master of Architecture, Master of Architecture with Emphasis in Interior Ar-
chitecture, and in the near future the Master of Design in Designed Objects degree programs,
initially estimated at 100MB per student, per course. When fully enrolled these three pro-
grams comprise 55 separate courses needing unique data entry templates, with enrollment
varying per course from a low of 10 to a high of 28.
Documents are accessible by an original unique filename, though may be referenced by auto-
generated name in file system. Documents must be stored for a specific number of years, typ-
ically through an entire multi-year accreditation cycle. File storage system are flexible enough
to store future data types, file formats, creation platforms, and media types. Executable files
are not stored on the server.
2) Assessing Coursework
In the MArch program, AIADO is dedicated to evaluating and tracking students’ undergraduate
coursework as part of the professional masters degree programs. SAIC has specifically designed a new
data-entry functionality that integrates with its comprehensive database in PeopleSoft to track the
academic records of its students, including the 45 credit non-architecture NNAB course requirements.
a) Credit trace system
This functionality collects and maintains information related to NAAB course requirements
for all four Master of Architecture program tracks. This information is integrated with other
student data and backed up, maintained, archived and kept secure on PeopleSoft.
b) Technical requirements
The non-architecture/interior architecture based coursework requirement is tracked in the
PeopleSoft Student Administration database. A data entry page is created for collection of
pertinent course information and system tables are created to store the data. This data is
then integrated in reports tracking and certifying completion of the requirements.
