Benoît Bérard is Maître de Conférences (associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor) <strong>of</strong> <strong>Caribbean</strong> archaeology<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Université des Antilles et de la Guyane. He has been conduct<strong>in</strong>g<br />

archaeological research <strong>in</strong> Mart<strong>in</strong>ique <strong>and</strong> Dom<strong>in</strong>ica. He is currently <strong>the</strong> director<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> French M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Foreign Affairs archaeological mission <strong>in</strong> Dom<strong>in</strong>ica.<br />

His research <strong>the</strong>mes center on lithic technology <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> first migrations <strong>of</strong> agroceramist<br />

<strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> Antilles.<br />

Mathijs Booden is pursu<strong>in</strong>g a Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> geology at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Auckl<strong>and</strong>,<br />

<strong>New</strong> Zeal<strong>and</strong>. His current research is on <strong>the</strong> alteration <strong>of</strong> volcanic rock by upwell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

hydro<strong>the</strong>rmal fluids. He explores <strong>the</strong> relation between different types <strong>of</strong> alteration<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> formation <strong>of</strong> precious metal ore deposits.<br />

Iris Briels studied <strong>Caribbean</strong> archaeology at Leiden University. She graduated<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2004, specializ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> use- wear analysis <strong>of</strong> fl<strong>in</strong>t tools. Her research concentrated<br />

on <strong>the</strong> fl<strong>in</strong>t assemblage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archaic Age Plum Piece site on Saba (Dutch Antilles).<br />

She has participated <strong>in</strong> fieldwork on several isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lesser Antilles<br />

<strong>and</strong> is currently work<strong>in</strong>g for RAAP, a Dutch archaeological consult<strong>in</strong>g firm.<br />

Jago Cooper is a Ph.D. student <strong>and</strong> codirector <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Forum for Isl<strong>and</strong> Research<br />

<strong>and</strong> Experience at <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Archaeology, University College London. His<br />

ma<strong>in</strong> research <strong>in</strong>terests are focused on <strong>the</strong> chang<strong>in</strong>g patterns <strong>of</strong> cultural <strong>in</strong>teraction<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Caribbean</strong>, <strong>and</strong> he is currently <strong>in</strong>volved with a number <strong>of</strong> collaborative<br />

archaeological projects <strong>in</strong> Cuba.<br />

Alfredo Coppa is full pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> physical anthropology at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />

Rome “La Sapienza” <strong>in</strong> Italy. He has conducted studies <strong>of</strong> human population paleobiology<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>and</strong> circum- <strong>Caribbean</strong> areas research<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> different isl<strong>and</strong>s<br />

<strong>of</strong> both <strong>the</strong> Greater <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lesser Antilles (Dom<strong>in</strong>ican Republic, Cuba,<br />

Puerto Rico, U.S. Virg<strong>in</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s, Guadeloupe, Mart<strong>in</strong>ique, Tr<strong>in</strong>idad, <strong>and</strong> Cura-<br />
