Andrea Cucina is a full- time research professor “A” at the Facultad de Ciencias
Antropológicas of the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in Mérida, Mexico. He
received his Ph.D. in paleopathology at the School of Medicine, Catholic University
of Rome. His research interests include skeletal biology, with an emphasis on
dental anthropology. He is currently investigating the peopling of the Caribbean
before the European contact as well as bioarchaeology of the ancient Maya populations.
Gareth Davies is full professor in petrology and chair of the Department of
Petrology since 2004 at the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, Free University Amsterdam.
He is the editor of the Journal of Petrology.
Hylke de Jong obtained his master’s degree from Leiden University in 2003 specializing
in Caribbean archaeology. His thesis was a pilot study applying 87 Sr/ 86 Sr
analysis to the site of Anse à la Gourde, Guadeloupe. Currently, he is doing his
Ph.D. (Faculty of Arts Scholarship) at the University of Bristol assessing past human
diet and mobility through changes in 87 Sr/ 86 Sr along tooth enamel using Laser
Ablation MC-ICPMS.
Christy de Mille has been involved with the Antigua Archaeological Project
for 12 years. She currently codirects an archaeological field school on Antigua run
through the Department of Archaeology, University of Calgary. She is also employed
as a consulting archaeologist at Bison Historical Services Ltd., Calgary, Alberta,
Canada. Her research interests include the Antiguan Preceramic and Saladoid
lapidary technology.
Corinne Hofman is full professor of Caribbean archaeology at the Faculty of
Archaeology at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She has been conducting archaeological
research on several islands of the Lesser Antilles for which she was
awarded grants from the Netherlands Foundation for Scientific Research (NWO).
Her current research themes center on mobility and exchange and sociopolitical
organization in the precolonial Caribbean.
Menno Hoogland is associate professor at the Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden
University. In 2004 he was awarded a grant by the Netherlands Foundation for Scientific
Research (NWO) for the program “Houses for the Living and the Dead.”
The project focuses on the organization of Taíno households in the Dominican
Republic (a.d. 1000–1500) and is executed in cooperation with the Museo del
Hombre Dominicano.
Charlene Dixon Hutcheson is an independent archaeologist in Roanoke, Virginia.
She has been working in the Bahamas since 1995 on Lucayan basketry impressed
pottery through the Lucayan Ecological Archaeology Project under the
direction of Mary Jane Berman and Perry L. Gnivecki. She has also excavated in
