Im Jahr 1873 anlässlich der Wiener Weltausstellung
von Theophil Hansen erbaut,
zählt das denkmalgeschützte Palais
Hansen am Schottenring zu den
historistischen Prachtbauten der berühmten
Wiener Ringstraße. Als „Stararchitekt“
seiner Zeit prägte Theophil Hansen – gebürtiger
Däne und Wahl-Wiener – wie kein anderer
die Architektur der Donaumetropole.
Auch wenn das Palais Hansen seinerzeit als
Hotel gebaut wurde, dauerte es noch 140
Jahre bis das ehrwürdige Gebäude seinen
ursprünglichen Zweck erfüllte. Denn erst
2013 wurde das mit größter Sorgfalt renovierte,
denkmalgeschützte Palais, das zwischenzeitlich
als Amtsgebäude der Stadt
Wien genutzt wurde, durch Europas älteste
Luxushotelkette Kempinski seiner Bestimmung
zugeführt und feierlich als Palais
Hansen Kempinski Wien eröffnet.
„Tag der offenen Tür“
Am 13. April 2023 lud das Palais Hansen
Kempinski zum “Tag der offenen Tür”.
Gäste, Anrainer und Interessierte hatten
die Möglichkeit, im Zuge von Hotelführungen
das historische Palais besser kennenzulernen.
„Der Abend war sehr stimmig, sehr harmonisch
und wurde dem Anlass des Jubiläums
des Hauses sehr gerecht“, erzählt General
Manager Florian Wille. „Die anwesenden
Gäste waren eine bunte Schar von Freunden,
Begleitern, und teilweise auch Menschen,
die die Revitalisierungsphase sehr intensiv
begleitet hatten. Man spürte viel Herzblut,
viel Emotion und jeder der da war, hatte eine
emotionale Bindung zum Haus. Es kamen
sogar Gäste aus den Bundesländern, wie
dem Burgenland, Niederösterreich und sogar
Salzburg.“
Built in 1873 by Theophil Hansen on
the occasion of the Vienna World‘s
Fair, the listed Palais Hansen on
Schottenring is one of the most magnificent
historicist buildings on Vienna‘s famous
Ringstrasse. As the „star architect“ of
his time, Theophil Hansen – a native Dane
and Viennese by choice – left his mark on
the architecture of the Danube metropolis
like no other. Even though Palais Hansen
was built as a hotel at the time, it took another
140 years for the venerable building to
fulfil its original purpose. It was only in
2013 that Europe‘s oldest luxury hotel
chain, Kempinski, opened the Palais Hansen
Kempinski Vienna, a listed building
that had been renovated with the utmost
care and had been used as an official building
of the City of Vienna in the meantime.
“Open Day“
On 13 April 2023, the Palais Hansen
Kempinski invited to an “Open Day“. Guests,
neighbours and interested parties had the
opportunity to get to know the historic Palais
better during hotel tours.
“The evening was very coherent, very harmonious
and did great justice to the occasion
of the hotel‘s anniversary,“ says General
Manager Florian Wille. “The present guests
were a colourful crowd of friends, companions,
and partly also people who had accompanied
the revitalisation phase very intensively.
You could feel a lot of heart and
soul, a lot of emotion, and everyone who was
there had an emotional connection to the
house. There were even guests from the provinces,
like Burgenland, Lower Austria and
even Salzburg.“
