The fact that the Brexit hardliners took issue with
the Windsor Framework is actually a good sign –

The focus is now clearly more on whether the
government is capable of solving concrete problems
rather than the hardline approach of simply ticking
off the “Get Brexit done” checklist, and in this regard,

Garton Ash, the renowned Professor of European
Studies at Oxford University, expressed it in the
New York Times four days after the coronation: “We
have passed peak Brexit. The structural problems
that flow from Brexit are still there, but it’s the beginning
of a long, slow, painful journey back.”
The process of finding the new role is not yet complete,
but it is already clear that the EU remains a politically
and economically overwhelmingly important
partner. The specific paths that can be pursued in the
current geopolitical landscape, including free trade
agreements, are still to be determined. London remains
a globally significant financial centre even
though it now has to do without foreign oligarchs.
In his recently published book “A Hitchhiker’s
Guide to Diplomacy”, Turner writes that in the 2016
referendum, Brexit opponents struggled to express
“emotionally driven – as opposed to economic or rational
– arguments for continued EU membership
that they could counter with the strongly emotionally
charged pro-Brexit camp”. Several crises and
changes in government later, along with a new king
on the throne, the mood towards the EU could potentially
normalise and even become positively charged
based on a new understanding of self.
After years of travel restrictions and price fluctuations,
the attractions of the United Kingdom are
once again drawing in tourists in large numbers.
Whether it’s Cornwall or Shakespeare’s birthplace in
Stratford upon Avon, the Scottish Highlands or
Stonehenge or cities like London, Liverpool, or Edinburgh,
the national tourism agency, Visit Britain, expected
35.1 million visitors in 2023, who were projected
to spend nearly £30 billion. These figures
indicate that revenue levels have already surpassed
those of the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
During the Coronation Weekend alone, London
welcomed around 70,000 foreign tourists, a 75 percent
increase compared to regular weekends. In this
regard, the presence of a golden carriage and swordbearers
makes perfect sense.
