KARL IVAN SOLIBAKKE is Research Professor in German Literature and Culture

at Syracuse University. He is the author of Geformte Zeit: Musik als

Diskurs und Struktur bei Bachmann und Bernhard (2005) and coeditor

of the Benjamin Blätter, a publication series sponsored by the Internationale

Walter Benjamin Gesellschaft. Solibakke has also published articles

on Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek, Heinrich Heine, Franz Kafka, and

Uwe Johnson as well as on fundamentalism in America.

MARC DE WILDE is Assistant Professor of Legal History at the University

of Amsterdam. He has written a dissertation on political theology in the

work of Walter Benjamin and Carl Schmitt (2008). He has also published

articles on legal theory, the concept of sovereignty, and political violence.

BERND WITTE is Professor of German Literature at the Heinrich-Heine-

University in Düsseldorf. From 2002 to 2006 he served as Dean of the

Division of Humanities. In 2000 he became President of the International

Walter Benjamin Society and was recently elected Chair of the Board of

the Freundeskreis des Goethe-Museums Düsseldorf. Professor Witte has published

extensively on a wide variety of literary and cultural topics, ranging

from Gellert and Goethe to Benjamin (Walter Benjamin: An Intellectual

Biography, 1991), Kafka, Celan, and Bachmann. His latest book publications

are Goethe: Das Individuum der Moderne schreiben und Jüdische

Tradition und literarische Moderne (both 2007).
