การออกแบบหลังคาสามารถกลายมาเป็นสัญลักษณ์ได้ และ<br />
หลังคาก็สามารถเป็นเครื่องมือในการควบคุมสภาพอากาศ<br />
ให้เย็นสบาย หลังคานั้นยังสามารถเป็นเหมือนประติมากรรม<br />
ขนาดใหญ่และมีสีสันสะดุดตา หลังคาอาจมีโครงสร้างที่<br />
ซับซ้อน หรือประกอบด้วยกลุ่มของหลังคารวมกัน หลังคา<br />
สามารถเป็นเวทีให้เราได้ดื่มด่ำากับทัศนียภาพอันกว้างไกล<br />
สามารถเป็นส่วนที่ติดกับที่ หดได้ หรือเคลื่อนย้ายได้ก็ได้<br />
การออกแบบหลังคายังสามารถมีหน้าตาที่บุกเบิกรูปแบบ<br />
ใหม่ๆ จนนับว่าเป็นสัญลักษณ์ว่าเรากำาลังเข้าสู่ยุคใหม่<br />

Junichiro Tanizaki เขียนไว้ว่าเรากางร่มก่อน และภายใต้<br />
เงาของร่มนั ้น เราจึงสร้างบ้านขึ้นมา<br />
Reflecting on the roof<br />
The design of a roof can be symbolic. A roof can<br />
be instrumental in controlling the climatic comfort.<br />
A roof can be bold and colourful. It can be complex<br />
in structure. It can be playful in its form. It can be a<br />
platform for us to absorb a panoramic view. It can<br />
be fixed, or retractable, or moveable. The design of<br />
a roof can be so pioneering that it symbolises that<br />
we are entering a new era. And the design of a roof<br />
can be our little step towards a more sustainable<br />
future. There are so many things that a roof can be.<br />
The next time we start designing a building, perhaps<br />
we can also start with the roof—just like what<br />
Junichiro Tanizaki wrote that we first spread a<br />
parasol, and under the parasol's shadow, we built<br />
a house.<br />

culture, and<br />
contemporary art. She<br />
also taught critical<br />
thinking in architectural<br />
design at Silpakorn<br />
University. Currently,<br />
she shares her passion<br />
for telling meaningful<br />
stories via architecture<br />
with students at the<br />
International Programme<br />
in Communication<br />
Design (CommDe),<br />
