Nuttawadee Suttanan
completed her bachelor’s
degree in archaeology
and is currently pursuing
PhD in vernacular
architecture at
Faculty of Architecture,
Silpakorn University.
She is also a partner
of “SONJAI”, a studio
working on urban development,
people-centered
and participatory
process in various
means.
In Khamron’s view, not only foreigners but also Thais are becoming increasingly aware of
matters such as nature and the environment, pollution, natural disasters, and pandemics.
Following the peak of COVID-19, individuals have prioritized their quality of life over the
appearance of their homes. From having visual references of their ideal houses and current
trends and designs in mind, the requirements are now being geared toward a “more comfortable
living environment for a higher quality of life.” It is an architect’s responsibility to design
and construct a house that is both visually appealing and pleasant to live in.
“It used to be that clients wanted to build a modern-looking home with
contemporary architectural style, but now they want to build a house with
true livability—a house that corresponds with their lifestyles and quality of
living; a house where they can breathe fresh air and have a good night’s sleep.
People are becoming increasingly conscious of their quality of life.”
Aside from changing customer needs, one of the visible changes among Eco Architect’s
clients is a deeper knowledge of the studio’s design philosophy and approach. Such a shift
gives them greater creative freedom when creating a work. Everyone is now being drawn to
one another through their shared interests and tastes, as well as the vision and trajectory
they are pursuing.
“We used to have people who wanted to create a beautiful-looking home.
However, clients have recently turned to us because they are familiar with
our design philosophy and expertise. They understand our nature. They can
anticipate how our design will turn out. We are who we are, they are who
they are, and everyone is brought together because we like similar things,
which allows us to communicate and grasp certain concepts more easily.”
This is the world and the time when people are less concerned with popular design trends
and more conscious of nature and the environment. This is undoubtedly a good sign for
Eco Architect. The long-term ambition for Eco Architect is for their small design business
to continue producing high-quality work, for every employee to love what they do, and to
contribute to the creation of better communities and, ultimately, a better world.
“I want us to be a small but high-quality studio capable of doing amazing
things for people, cities, and the world. We want to do our jobs with happiness,
and we want to continue to improve our work with each passing year.”
