Her design centers around the effects of deforestation, pollution, and health risks that women living in rural regions confront. Some refer to her architectural work as eco-feminism because of the way she analyzes and navigates various approaches for women and the environment to coexist, whether in cultural, economic, religious, or political aspects, all of which strive to meet the needs of both women and the world. From last year’s Royal Gold Medal winner, the late Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi, to this year’s winner, Yasmeen Lari, it’s an interesting manifestation of the RIBA’s new direction and the support it gives to architects. From now on, more architects will be recognized not for the works they did for the 1% of the world with all the money and power, but for the contribution of their knowledge and ability to help the human race, especially those who are suffering from inequality, disparity, and catastrophic natural disasters caused by climate change. architecture.com
