Medical Assistant Certi�cate Program<br />

This program is offered at the Chelsea Campus.<br />

Applicants to this program are required to undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check<br />

and a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) check. Admission to an Allied Health program does not<br />

guarantee clinical placement. The outcome of the CORI/SORI check may impact the student’s ability to<br />

participate in the clinical experience. For further <strong>info</strong>rmation, see the department chairperson. Students<br />

must maintain a grade of B- or better in AHE110 and AHE112 in order to continue into the second semester.<br />

PROGRAM OVERVIEW<br />

This program prepares students to function as members of a<br />

health care delivery team and to perform administrative and<br />

clinical duties. The program prepares students in Healthcare<br />

Provider CPR, EKG, and phlebotomy.<br />

CRIMINAL OFFENDER RECORD INFORMATION AND<br />

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY INFORMATION CHECKS<br />

As a prerequisite for a clinical placement in the Medical Assistant<br />

Certi�cate Program, all students must undergo a Criminal<br />

Offender Record Information (CORI) check and a Sex Offender<br />

Registry Information (SORI) check. These checks are required<br />

due to potential unsupervised contact with children, the disabled,<br />

or the elderly during a clinical experience. Students found to<br />

have certain criminal convictions or pending criminal actions<br />

will be presumed ineligible for clinical placement. The <strong>College</strong><br />

is authorized by the Commonwealth’s Department of Criminal<br />

Justice Information Services, pursuant to Massachusetts<br />

General Laws, Chapter 6, Sections 167-178 B, to access CORI<br />

records. Sex Offender checks shall be performed pursuant to<br />

Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 6, Sections 178C-178P.<br />

CAREER OUTLOOK<br />

Graduates of this program qualify for employment in hospitals,<br />

clinics, health maintenance organizations, and physicians’ of�ces<br />

as multi-skilled workers, medical assistants, medical aides,<br />

clinical assistants, and clinical practice assistants.<br />
