Carlos E. Cano Memorial Scholarship<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Awarded to a new or continuing student in the Culinary Arts Program. Continuing students<br />

must maintain a GPA of 2.00 or higher. Recipient must write a brief thank you note to donor. Preference will<br />

be given to students of Columbian descent though other quali�ed students should apply as well.<br />

Amount: $200 towards books and supplies for Fall 2013 and is renewable for Spring 2014 if student maintains<br />

eligibility requirements.<br />

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013<br />

English as a Second Language Award for Continuing Students<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Awarded to two (2) continuing BHCC students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who<br />

are enrolled in an associate degree program and have completed at least 6 credits of ESL at BHCC. Must be<br />

enrolled for at least 6 credits in ESL for the Spring 2013 semester and will be enrolled for at least 6 credits for<br />

the Fall 2013 semester.<br />

Amount: The scholarship is for in-state tuition and fees (up to 6 credits) for the Fall 2013 semester. Scholarship<br />

is renewable for the Spring 2014 semester if the student maintains eligibility requirements.<br />

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013<br />

Edward L. Kerr, Jr. Memorial Scholarship<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Continuing BHCC student who has earned at least 15 credits at BHCC and has a cumulative<br />

GPA of 3.25 or higher.<br />

Amount: $250 for the Fall 2013 semester. Scholarship is renewable for the Spring 2014 semester if the<br />

student maintains eligibility requirements.<br />

Thomas A. Kershaw Scholarship<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Continuing BHCC student pursuing a course of study in Culinary Arts or the Hotel/<br />

Restaurant/Travel program with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.<br />

Amount: $350.<br />

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013.<br />

Stanley Z. Koplik Scholarship<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Continuing BHCC student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and is currently<br />

enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits at BHCC. Applicant must be enrolled in an A.S. or A.A. degree program in<br />

accordance with MassTransfer guidelines approved by the Massachusetts State <strong>College</strong>s and the University<br />

of Massachusetts.<br />

Amount: $250 for the Fall 2013 semester. Scholarship is renewable for the Spring 2014 semester if the<br />

student maintains eligibility requirements.<br />

Marguerite I. Munster Memorial Scholarship<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Matriculated fourth semester Nursing major who has demonstrated outstanding clinical<br />

competence and academic achievement in courses completed at BHCC.<br />

Amount: $500.<br />

Nancy Myers Memorial Scholarship for New Students<br />

Eligibility Criteria: For a new student who meets the following criteria: 1) be accepted into a BHCC degree<br />

program; 2) registered as a full-time student (12 credits or more); 3) have a 2.5 G.P.A. or better at time<br />

of application deadline; 4) demonstrate involvement in both community and high school; 5) and agree to<br />

participate in the BHCC Mentor Program.<br />

Amount: In-state tuition and fees up to 12 credits for Fall 2013. Renewable for Spring 2014 and possibly future<br />

semesters if eligibility criteria is maintained.<br />

Application Deadline: April 5, 2013<br />

Maurice F. O’Shea Trustees’ Academic Award<br />

Eligibility Criteria: Continuing BHCC student who has demonstrated outstanding academic excellence while<br />

attending <strong>Bunker</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours at<br />

BHCC (includes all credits earned at BHCC and current Spring 2013 credits) and have earned a cumulative GPA<br />

of 3.50 or higher. Applicants, in an essay of no more than 300 words, must indicate how they have contributed<br />

to the institutional values of the BHCC community (see page 8) and must also outline their career goals.<br />

Applicants will need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation (two of which must be from BHCC faculty),<br />

which speak to the applicants’ commitment to their courses of study and give examples of that commitment.<br />

Amount: The award is for in-state tuition and fees for up to 12 credits for the Fall 2013 semester and is<br />

renewable for the Spring 2014 semester if the student maintains eligibility requirements.<br />

President’s High School Scholarship<br />

Participating High Schools: Boston <strong>Community</strong> Leadership Academy, Jeremiah E. Burke High School,<br />

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Charlestown High School, Chelsea High School, Dorchester Academy,<br />

East Boston High School, English High School, Everett High School, Fenway High School, The Engineering<br />

School, Madison Park Technical Vocational High School of Mathematics & Science, Malden High School,<br />

Medford High School, Monument High School, Parkway Academy of Technology & Health, Revere High<br />

School, Muriel F. Snowden International High School, Tech Boston Academy, Urban Science Academy,<br />

Winthrop High School.<br />

Eligibility Criteria: One graduating senior from each of the high schools listed above, nominated by the high<br />

school principal/headmaster (or designee) is eligible for this scholarship upon meeting the following criteria: 1)<br />

be accepted into a BHCC degree or certi�cate program; 2) agree to participate in the BHCC Mentor Program<br />

during the scholarship award period; 3) have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher at the close of the high<br />

school academic year; 4) be an active member of the high school and community.<br />

Amount: In-state tuition and fees (up to 12 credits) for the Fall 2013 semester. Scholarship is renewable for<br />

the Spring 2014 semester if the student maintains eligibility requirements.<br />

Application Deadline: A nomination form and letter will be sent to the principal of each high school during the<br />

�rst week of April. Nomination forms are due no later than May 24, 2013.<br />
