Strong analytical skills are recommended for students enrolling in this course. Please note<br />
that this course is a four credit course with six contact hours and analogous homework. This<br />
course ful�lls the Learning <strong>Community</strong> Seminar requirement for students in AA Computer<br />
Science, AS Computer Science, and AS Computer Engineering areas of study. Other<br />
departments may allow this course to be used as a LC seminar for their students. Students in<br />
majors other than the ones listed above should obtain their advisor’s or the leading faculty<br />

CIT-121 Introduction to Computer Forensics 3 Credits<br />
This is an introductory course in Computer Forensics. Forensics Computing, Digital Forensics,<br />
or Computer Forensics is the name for a newly emerging �eld of study and practice that<br />
incorporates many areas of expertise. Some of these areas have been called network security,<br />
intrusion detection, incident response, infrastructure protection, disaster recovery, continuity<br />
planning, software engineering, cyber security, and computer crime investigation. It is an area<br />
of practice in public law enforcement at the federal, state and local levels that deals with<br />
cyber crime, cyber vandalism, cyber predators, and cyber terrorism. In the private sector, it<br />
deals with critical infrastructure such as business, hospitals, utilities transportation, �nance,<br />
education, and other key institutions. Taught in the <strong>College</strong>’s hands-on laboratory students<br />
will gain an in-depth knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques used in digital<br />
forensic analysis. Prerequisite: Applications & Concepts (CIT110) or Information Technology<br />
Fundamentals (CIT112) or IT Problem Solving (CIT113) or Intro to Computer Science &<br />
Object Oriented Programming (CIT120) or permission of the department chair.<br />
CIT-128 Database Design with MS Access 3 Credits<br />
This is a comprehensive course in the use and application of computers in database<br />
applications based on the most current version of MICROSOFT ACCESS. The course covers<br />
all aspects of database design including entity relationship modeling, tables, reports,<br />
queries, forms and other database objects. All key MS ACCESS functionality including<br />
Internet applications, integration with the Web and other software programs are covered.<br />
Students gain some experience using Structured Query Language (SQL) and Visual BASIC<br />
for Applications (VBA) in the �nal component of the course. Microsoft Corporation has<br />
approved this course material as courseware for the Microsoft Business Certi�cation (MBC)<br />
Program and students may choose to take the MBC ACCESS Certi�cation Examination upon<br />
completion of this course. Prerequisite: Computer Applications/Concepts (CIT110) or IT<br />
Problem Solving (CIT113) or Introduction to Computer Science & OOP (CIT120), equivalent<br />

CIT-133 Introduction to Microsoft Office 3 Credits<br />
This introductory course covers the use and application of integrated PC applications<br />
software based on the most current version of Microsoft Of�ce. The course initially covers<br />
the MS Windows skills necessary to complete the course. Using the hands-on college<br />
computer laboratory, the course covers the following applications in detail: Word Processing,<br />
Spreadsheet, Database, Presentation Graphics, and Desktop Information Management. The<br />
course emphasizes Internet applications relating to MS Of�ce. It also covers integration<br />
among the MS Of�ce Applications. Microsoft Corporation has approved this course material<br />
as courseware for the Microsoft Business Certi�cation (MBC) Program and students may<br />
choose to take the MBC Certi�cation Examination(s) upon completion of this course. For<br />

CIT-140 Practical Computer System Integration &<br />
Troubleshooting Computer-based Training (CBT) 3 Credits<br />
Using several multi-media tools, this course covers most major technical issues related to<br />
Personal Computer and/or Workstation troubleshooting. Through real-world simulations,<br />
students gain an understanding of situations where hardware & software problems lead to<br />
lost productivity and “downtime”. Students are taught methodologies and techniques that can<br />
be used to resolve problems that arise from complex computer system integration. Although<br />
intended primarily for students in the business and medical �elds, anyone interested in<br />
learning more about Windows XP, hardware and software issues relating to PC and workstation<br />
connection to networks and the Internet should consider taking this course. Troubleshooting<br />
fundamentals, tools, error messages and their meaning and use of the command prompt are<br />
also taught. Upon completion of this course, students will have detailed knowledge, skills<br />
and competencies required to troubleshoot most PC and workstation problems. All Learner<br />
Outcomes and Competencies in this course are approved by the National Workforce Center<br />
for Emerging Technologies (NWCET). Prerequisite: Reading Skills II (RDG095) or Academic<br />
Reading III (ESL098) or exemption from reading requirement by placement testing. For<br />

CIT-141 PACS Administration I 3 Credits<br />
This is an introductory course covering the major aspects of administering Picture Archiving<br />
& Communication Systems, PACS. This course provides students with an overview and<br />
introduction to the core aspects PACS Systems Administration and Technology including but<br />
not limited to: PACS components, functions and standards, PACS network and infrastructure,<br />
PACS image acquisition, archiving, query, storage and retrieval, and PACS Management<br />
Software modules. This course focuses on an understanding and appreciation of the duties<br />
of PACS administration professional and how PACS relates to and interacts with the Hospital<br />
Information (HIS) and Radiology Information (RIS) Systems. Upon completion of this course<br />
students will have the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to administer PACS<br />
Systems at a basic level. Students taking the course are expected to have a solid knowledge<br />
of computer terminology, internet navigation and e-mail, operating system and �le<br />
management skills. Prerequisite: Information Technology Fundamentals (CIT112), equivalent<br />
course, equivalent experience or permission of the CIT department chair. Pre/co-requisite:<br />
Introduction to Diagnostic Imaging & PACS (MIG161).<br />
CIT-162 Introduction to Networking 3 Credits<br />
This course introduces students to fundamental networking concepts and technologies. The<br />
material in this course encompasses a broad range of technologies that facilitate how people<br />
work, live, play, and learn by communicating with voice, video, and other data. First, you<br />
will examine human versus network communication and see the parallels between them.<br />
Next, you will be introduced to the two major models used to plan and implement networks:<br />
OSI and TCP/IP. You will gain an understanding of the “layered” approach to networks and<br />
examine the OSI and TCP/IP layers in detail to understand their functions and services. You<br />
will become familiar with the various network devices, network addressing schemes and,<br />
�nally, the types of media used to carry data across the network. In this course, you will<br />
gain experience using networking utilities and tools, such as Packet Tracer and Wireshark®,<br />
to explore networking protocols and concepts. These tools will help you to develop an<br />
understanding of how data �ows in a network. A special “model Internet” is also used to<br />
provide a test environment where a range of network services and data can be observed<br />
and analyzed. Prerequisite: Applications and Concepts (CIT110) or Information Technology<br />
Fundamentals (CIT112) or IT Problem Solving (CIT113) or Intro to Computer Science &<br />
