OIM101 is a prerequisite or corequisite to program, which should be taken prior to or during the �rst semester. An exemption exam is available through the Center<br />
for Self-Directed Learning in Room E235 for students who type 35 words per minute or more with accuracy and know MS Word and document format.<br />
Note: Administrative Business Communication must be taken during the fall semester prior to enrolling in OIM299.<br />
Of�ce Information Management<br />
OPTION OVERVIEW<br />
The Of�ce and Information Management Department’s mission<br />
is to provide industry-identi�ed knowledge, skills, and abilities<br />
to prepare students for entry-level careers within of�ce<br />
administration and/or medical of�ce administration �elds. For<br />
individuals already employed within these �elds, professional<br />
development can be obtained through the more advanced<br />
courses. In addition, transfer to four-year programs is possible.<br />
The department offers a capstone internship program for all<br />
degree students.<br />
The Administrative Information Management Option prepares<br />
students to work in an executive of�ce environment. The option<br />
focuses on MS Of�ce applications including security issues and<br />
integration of software. Students participate in an internship in<br />
a business setting during their last spring semester to re<strong>info</strong>rce<br />
skills learned. Classes in this option are suitable for individuals<br />
who seek retraining, upgrading of computer or management<br />
skills, or who seek MOUS certi�cation.<br />
CAREER OUTLOOK<br />
Graduates of this option qualify for job opportunities within a wide<br />
range of businesses, corporations, and government agencies.<br />
Graduates qualify for entry-level positions such as account<br />
specialist or representative, executive/administrative assistant,<br />
executive secretary, of�ce administrator, computer applications<br />
specialist, customer service representative, or <strong>info</strong>rmation<br />
processing specialist.<br />
