more vein, north dip, to Buck Mountain vein, south dip, one hundred<br />

<strong>and</strong> twenty-seven yards which includes sixty-seven feet through Mammoth<br />

vein.<br />

At Girard Mammoth colhery an underground slope has been driven<br />

westward in <strong>the</strong> basin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mammoth vein two hundred <strong>and</strong> thirty-two<br />

<strong>and</strong> two-thirds j^ards.<br />

Gilberton Colliery.<br />

A tunnel was driven from Mammoth vein, bottom split, to Holmes vein<br />

second lift ninety-five yards long. Also tunnel driven from Mammoth<br />

vein bottom split to Holmes vein, third lift, ninety-five yards long.<br />

West Bear Ridge Colliery,<br />

A new exhaust fan 18 ' diameter has been erected, with direct acting<br />

engine, 18" cylinder, 16" stroke. An airway west <strong>of</strong> slope, thirty-four<br />

yards long has been driven. An aircourse tunnel has been driven across<br />

<strong>the</strong> basin in rock seventy-five yards long in third lift, area seventy feet<br />

A tunnel has been driven across <strong>the</strong> basin from <strong>the</strong> south to <strong>the</strong> north<br />

dip <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mammoth vein, a distance <strong>of</strong> sixty yards, this is <strong>the</strong> transportation<br />

tunnel <strong>of</strong> which forty yards was driven for double track <strong>and</strong><br />

twenty yards for single track. At what is called <strong>the</strong> "East Side" <strong>of</strong><br />

West Bear Bidge (or known formerly as East Bear Ridge) a tunnel was<br />

driven from Mammoth vein, bottom split, water level (at breast 54) to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Buck Mountain, one hundred <strong>and</strong> one <strong>and</strong> two-thirds yards long, so<br />

that all <strong>the</strong> water east <strong>of</strong> this point will run north through this tunnel,<br />

west to <strong>the</strong> main water level tunnel, which will allow <strong>of</strong> taking all <strong>the</strong><br />

coal between <strong>the</strong> slope <strong>and</strong> water level gangways, in <strong>the</strong> Mammoth vein,<br />

for a distance <strong>of</strong> about one thous<strong>and</strong> yards. A tunnel was driven for<br />

air from top split <strong>of</strong> Mammoth vein, west gangway, to a point opposite<br />

airway, driven from slope level in Mammoth vein, bottom split, a<br />

distance <strong>of</strong> twenty yards. A rock tunnel was driven for back switch at<br />

foot <strong>of</strong> hoisting slope for double track, length twenty-three yards. An<br />

airw.'iy was driven west <strong>of</strong> Trial slope, one hundred <strong>and</strong> one yards long.<br />

A rock airway in Leader above <strong>the</strong> Skidmore vein has been driven 9 ' x 12<br />

<strong>and</strong> one hundred <strong>and</strong> thirty yards long to surface. An airway has been<br />

driven in east Buck Mountain gangway water level (at breakers No. 14)<br />

up one hundred <strong>and</strong> seventy-two yards in <strong>the</strong> vein <strong>and</strong> twenty-seven<br />

yards through rock to <strong>the</strong> surface.<br />

Mahanoy City Colliery.<br />

A tunnel was driven from east bottom split gangway second lift to<br />

Skidmore vein, fifty yards long. A hoisting slope was also sunk in Seven-<br />

foot vein (which is an extension <strong>of</strong> North Mahanoy colliery No. 1 slope)<br />

a distance <strong>of</strong> one hundred <strong>and</strong> thirty yards below Mahanoy colliery<br />

second lift. A dam has also been built at a point between Mahanoy<br />
