Manor Shaft.—The condition <strong>of</strong> this mine has been very favorable<br />

during <strong>the</strong> year, with an average <strong>of</strong> 28,850 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> air per minute<br />

going out at <strong>the</strong> outlet. The distribution <strong>of</strong> this volume was very reasonable.<br />

Hostetter Coke Company <strong>Mines</strong>.<br />

Lippincott Mine.—The mine is in a healthy condition. The average<br />

amount <strong>of</strong> air going in at <strong>the</strong> inlet per minute was 40,600 cubic feet.<br />

This volume was well divided <strong>and</strong> circulated to <strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> workings.<br />

Mining-boss, George Eusris.<br />

Whitney Mine.—This mine is kept fully up to <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

law, with an average <strong>of</strong> 59,160 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> air going in at <strong>the</strong> inlet per<br />

minute. This volume is divided <strong>and</strong> well circulated through <strong>the</strong> mine.<br />

After removing <strong>the</strong> pillars fire-damp has appeared on <strong>the</strong> falls, <strong>and</strong><br />

tlie company is now drawing <strong>the</strong> pillars with locked safety lamps.<br />

Mining-boss, John Pratt.<br />

West Overton Mine.—This mine is in favorable condition, with an av-<br />

erage <strong>of</strong> 9,400 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> air in circulation per minute. Mining-boss,<br />

John Boyle.<br />

West Neivton Shaft.—This mine has been kept in a healthy condition,<br />

Avith an average <strong>of</strong> 44,940 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> air passing out at <strong>the</strong> outlet per<br />

minute. The distribution <strong>of</strong> this volume is well attended to. Mining-<br />

boss, Robert Hall.<br />

Weinman Mine.—When I visited this mine in October I could not<br />

take any air measurements, <strong>and</strong> I informed <strong>the</strong> operator <strong>of</strong> this fact.<br />

He promised to remedy this trouble at once, <strong>and</strong> his December monthly<br />

report showed that he had done so. Mining-boss, Jacob Weinman.<br />

Ocean Mine.—This is a small mine furnishing custom coal, <strong>and</strong> owing<br />

to <strong>the</strong> failure <strong>of</strong> natural gas, <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> miners had to be increased<br />

so as to bring <strong>the</strong> mine under <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law. On my visit,<br />

October 15, I found <strong>the</strong> ventilation <strong>and</strong> drainage in a ra<strong>the</strong>r bad condi-<br />

tion. I notified <strong>the</strong> operator that he must make some alteration at<br />

once, <strong>and</strong> he proceeded to erect a small basket furnace in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> out-<br />

lets for ventilation. The miners objected to this, as <strong>the</strong>y would have to<br />

walk a little fur<strong>the</strong>r to get out, so he was obliged to have ano<strong>the</strong>r air<br />

shaft for ventilation. Mining-boss, Gotleib Vogele.<br />

Penn Gas Coal Company <strong>Mines</strong>.<br />

Coal Run.—The condition <strong>of</strong> this mine is very favorable, having an<br />

average <strong>of</strong> 23,017 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> air going out at <strong>the</strong> outlet per minute.<br />

The distribution <strong>of</strong> this volume was all right. Mining-boss, William<br />
