Number of Convention <strong>refugees</strong><br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the OFPRA 1998 statistics, there are 115,025 adult Convention <strong>refugees</strong> currently<br />

resident <strong>in</strong> France. The ma<strong>in</strong> countries of orig<strong>in</strong> of these <strong>refugees</strong> are: Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam<br />

(49,863), Sri-Lanka (15,900), Turkey (11,852), Former Yugoslavia (6,565) <strong>and</strong> the Democratic<br />

Republic of Congo (5,193).<br />

These figures do not <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>for</strong>mer <strong>refugees</strong> who adopted French nationality (2,496 <strong>in</strong> 1998 <strong>and</strong><br />

1,269 <strong>in</strong> 1997).<br />
