• .X- respectfully request your approval to the appropriation of
$59*10*00. for-Highways, Snow Removal, Equipment Account, to cover the cost of
,two (2) Barber Greene snow loaders at $2970.00.
- It was necessary to hire these two snow loaders to remove snow
from the shopping centers, around churches, etc., during the several snow
storms in December 19^5* the rental thereof amounting to about $1,000.00 per
storm.
- Undoubtedly it will be necessary to use snow loaders on other
occasions during the next few months, and if we are obliged to again hire
these snow loaders, the rental charge might well run up-to as much or more
than $6,000.00.
• It is apparent that in order to perform-the high calibre of
work as in the last three snow storms, we must either hire or purchase snowloaders.
To be forced to hire them in subsequent storms would be poor business
judgment.- paying rental we have nothing but the use of the machines
for the time hired to show for an expenditure of the taxpayers' money, and
we might well -spend for hire, before the Winter is over, much more than we
could have originally purchased these snow loaders for, and owned them outright
to be used for many years to come. If the City owned these snow loaders
we could operate them for greater periods of time without the worry of
cost of hire, and extend the ^service over a greater area. Now is the time to
buy.
I trust that this new : Board of Aldermen will establish a policy
of sound economic action, and I, therefore request that your Honorable
Board take action at tonight's meeting.
