Hon. G* Edward Bradley
Mayor of Somerville
My dear Mr- Mayor:
Thursday, June 13,
City of Somerville
Massachusetts
Office of
Commissioner of public Buildings
June 13,
Re: Thomas F. Murphy and Cornelius Collins
I respectfully request that the amount of $5^7-50 be appropriated
to Increase the step rate of Cornelius Collins to the maximum salary
for the following reasons.
Mr. Collins ie employed in the Southern Junior High School
as a Junior building custodian, but he is really doing fireman's work and has
a fireman's license, and as the Job is a difficult one, I believe he is entitled
to this Increase. Furthermore, at the time of our going over the budget
items this employee was supposed to be set up for the step rate, but .
through error was not taken care of when the budget was submitted in final form
to you. . :
With reference to Thomas F- Murphy, he was given.a leave of
absence to engage in war production during the years of the war and while he
was engaged in this work he received no step rate increases from the Building
Department with the other custodians, because he was not on the current payroll.
Therefore, I believe in order to adjust this matter the amount of
$370.21 should be asked for In order that he may receive the maximum step rate
increase consistent with his years of service.
