EAM: Para nadie es un secreto
que la pandemia generó cambios
en las modalidades de consumo.
¿Qué hicieron en ASSA Compañía
de Seguros para subirse a estas
nuevas tendencias?
RS: Nos fuimos de lleno a lo
digital. Y esto no fue decisión
exclusivamente de la industria
de seguros; básicamente todos
corrieron hacia allá. Entonces,
al no poder salir de casa a
tocar puertas, tuvimos que
aprovechar las plataformas
virtuales como cotizadores,
emisores, vías para realizar
pagos de prima…, todo de
to the insurance industry,
everyone basically ran in that
direction. Consequently, when
we were unable to leave our
houses to knock on other
people’s doors, we had to take
advantage of virtual platforms
like online quotation and
issuance tools, and we had to
find ways for people to pay
their premiums..., also online.
The pandemic substantially
accelerated this process, which
had been simmering for years.
In ASSA Compañía de
Seguros, we had wanted to
implement all this from some
time ago, and we had been
working on that. However,
the health situation finally
pushed us to do so. I can
say that everything worked
out well since we were
technologically prepared. The
current transition to the digital
world represents a change in
the mindset and in the way
consumers expect to purchase
in the future.
EAM: El Salvador was the first
country to adopt bitcoin as a legal
currency. How does that decision
translate into the insurance
industry?
RS: Undoubtedly, it was
something unexpected that
led us to review policies that
had been structured decades
ago and, evidently, were not
designed to undertake a virtual
currency and, in turn, give it
coverage.
Therefore, as an insurance
company, we face several
challenges in assisting clients
who want to have bitcoins in
their balance sheet. The use of
this cryptocurrency requires a
high level of financial education
to know everything related to
its use.
Thus, a deep analysis must
be executed along with a
regulation determining how
this asset is to be treated,
whether is it a currency or an
investment tool or if it can be
diversified through investments.
In other words, it raises a series
of issues that the Government
is still working on and we, as
insurance companies, have to
be prepared in order to support
our clients.
On the other hand, ASSA
Compañía de Seguros is
investing a lot in technology
and operative methods. Its
