– The subjective evaluation of the nature, quality and quantity of an individual’s
overall level of social interaction and engagement. Loneliness is the state where
the individual’s quantity and/or quality of social relationships is bellow the
desired level. (s. 28)
Williams 1978:
– A feeling that comes to a person when there seems to be no one who cares
about what happens to him/her. The feeling is expressed as self-pity, thus making
that person think only self and the things expected from others. (s. 184)
Young 1982:
– The absence or perceived absence of satisfying social relationships, accompanied
by symptoms of psychological distress that are related to the actual or
perceived absence. (s. 380)
