(“GAR”), merupakan masalah pemangkukepentingan paling signifikan yang dihadapi Perseroan padatahun 2010, yang memerlukan tingkat responsif yang maksimal.Untuk memastikan bahwa masalah yang diangkat Greenpeacedalam berbagai laporannya diverifikasi secara independen melaluimetode ilmiah dan tersertifikasi, kami menunjuk Control UnionCertification (“CUC”) dan BSI Group (“BSI”). CUC dan BSI, keduanyamerupakan badan sertifikasi yang terdaftar dalam Roundtable onSustainable Palm Oil (“RSPO”).CUC dan BSI dibantu oleh dua ahli terkemuka, Prof. Dr. BambangHero Saharjo dan Dr. Ir. Processes arein place to listen and respond to our customers, the government,key players in the palm oil industry, non-government organisations(“NGOs”), local and indigenous communities, employees and thewider society.Responding to GreenpeaceThe Greenpeace campaign against SMART and its parentcompany, Golden Agri Resources Ltd. (“GAR”), was the mostsignificant stakeholder issue facing the Company in 2010, onewhich required the maximum degree of responsiveness. To ensurethat the issues raised by Greenpeace in a series of reports wereverified independently using scientific and certified methods,we appointed Control Union Certification (“CUC”) and BSI Group(“BSI”). Both CUC and BSI are certification bodies approved by theRoundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (“RSPO”).CUC and BSI were assisted by two leading experts, Prof. Dr. BambangHero Saharjo and Dr. Ir. H. Yanto Santosa from Indonesia’s BogorAgricultural Institute (“IPB”). Both are senior academicians andforestry conservation scientists at IPB’s Faculty of Forestry whoprovided independent advice and technical expertise. Laporan IVEX menggarisbawahi area-area yang telahsesuai dengan aturan serta area-area yang belum sesuai denganaturan yang ada.Bekerja sama dengan RSPOPada bulan September 2010, Dewan Eksekutif RSPO memintaGrievance Panel RSPO (”Panel RSPO”) untuk menyampaikanketidakpatuhan Perseroan terhadap Code of Conduct RSPOsebagaimana dipaparkan dalam laporan IVEX.Melalui pernyataan bersama tanggal 28 Oktober 2010, dilaporkanbahwa Panel RSPO telah berdialog dengan perwakilan dariSMART dan GAR, serta PT Ivo Mas Tunggal (“IMT”), perusahaanafiliasinya, dengan tujuan untuk menyepakati langkah-langkahpenyelesaian kasus ketidakpatuhan terhadap Code of ConductRSPO. Selanjutnya, Panel RSPO mengevaluasi dan menerimatanggapan kami pada tahap Prosedur Grievance. Uraian lengkapdari tanggapan Perseroan kepada Panel RSPO dapat dilihat melaluipublikasi di website kami http://www.smart-tbk.com.Kami juga bekerja sama dengan The Forest Trust (“TFT”), NGOinternasional yang berbasis di Jenewa, dalam mempersiapkanperolehan sertifikasi RSPO bagi unit operasi kelapa sawit kamipada Desember 2015. TheIVEX report highlighted areas where we were in compliance aswell as areas where we were not.Working with the RSPOIn September 2010, the RSPO Executive Board requested the RSPOGrievance Panel (“RSPO Panel”) to address the non-compliancewith the RSPO Code of Conduct as raised in the IVEX report.In a joint statement dated 28 October 2010, we reported thatthe RSPO Panel had entered into a constructive dialogue withrepresentatives from SMART and GAR, as well as PT Ivo MasTunggal (“IMT”), an affiliated company, with the goal of agreeingon actions to resolve cases of non-compliance with the RSPOCode of Conduct. Subsequently, the RSPO Panel evaluated ourresponses and considered them acceptable at that stage of theGrievance Procedure. For full details of our response to theRSPO Panel, please refer to announcements on our website,http://www.smart-tbk.com.We also engaged The Forest Trust (“TFT”), a Geneva-basedinternational NGO, to work closely with us to prepare for RSPOcertification of our palm oil operations by December 2015.Together with TFT, we submitted an overall gap assessment ofall operations and an updated time-bound plan to certify ourplantations and mills at the end of March 2011. As announcedin a joint statement on 4 April 2011, the RSPO Panel will reviewthe certification process of SMART and IMT upon submission ofthe full reports with regard to peat restoration, social researchand HCV compensation.
