In tanti la immaginano come una terra esotica e lontana. In
realtà, anche per chi non ama i viaggi non convenzionali, una
vacanza in camper in Tunisia non è così difficile da organizzare
come potrebbe sembrare. Questo Paese, poi, racchiude in sé diverse
meraviglie, da spiagge da sogno dove divertirsi e fare il bagno in
acque cristalline con splendidi fondali a città ricche di storia, da
piccoli centri caratteristici a vere e proprie oasi termali fino al
deserto del Sahara. Andiamo dunque alla scoperta di questa straor-
dinaria terra, dove il tempo sembra scorrere più lentamente.
Tunisi: tracce di secoli di storia. La prima tappa della nostra
vacanza è la capitale del Paese, Tunisi. Questa città conserva anco-
ra oggi numerose tracce del passato, come le splendide porte della
cinta muraria, all'interno della quale sorge la città vecchia (Medi-
na); tra le più belle, c'è sicuramente la Porta Verde (Bab el Khadra).
L'architettura della zona è molto varia e testimonia il passaggio di

diversi popoli in questo luogo, per molti versi unico. Tra labirinti
di vie strette e piccolissimi cunicoli, sorgono grandi minareti e
suggestive cupole bianche. Molto confusionario, ma proprio per
questo caratteristico, è il Suk, l'esteso mercato sulle cui bancarelle
si trova praticamente di tutto: da oro e argento a stoffe e tappeti, da
strumenti in rame a oggetti in ceramica. La città nuova, invece, ha
un aspetto piuttosto moderno. Tra le diverse moschee che si possono
visitare, la più imponente e importante è senza dubbio quella degli
Aghlabidi. Per rilassarsi un po', si può trascorrere qualche minuto
al Parco del Belvedere, dove si trova anche la Kouba, una meravi-

Many think of it as an exotic, faraway land. In
actual fact, even for those who don’t like to
stray off the beaten track, a holiday in a motor home
in Tunisia is not as difficult to arrange as it might seem.
This country offers an enormously varied cultural and
physical landscape: from fabulous beaches with crystal
clear waters and the obscenely blue Mediterranean to
cities rich in history, from archaeological sites to the
stunningly beautiful oases in the inhospitable Sahara
desert. In this article we set about discovering this
amazing land where time seems to pass more slowly
than elsewhere.
Tunis: centuries of history. The first destination
on our trip is the nation’s capital Tunis. This city still
has many traces of the past, such as the splendid
gates in the city walls, within which lies the cloistered
Medina (old town); one of the most beautiful is definitely
the Green Gate (Bab el Khadra). The local architecture
varies enormously and is in many ways unique,
bearing witness to thousands of years of foreign influence
under a series of different rulers. Amidst a maze
of narrow lanes and tiny alleys, there are large domes
and splendid white minarets. A must-visit is of course
the souk with its distinctive atmosphere, the sprawling
market stalls hawking practically everything from gold
and silverware to fabrics and carpets, copper tools
and ceramics. The newer part of the city provides a
