Abstract
The present study examines the environmental impacts caused by the Environmental education
project "Mata Viva do Belém" in the community of São Sebastião do Belém in Santa Maria de
Jetibá-ES, from the perception of its subject. The theoretical assumptions made are related from the
perspective of critical and transformative environmental education which took as a great educator
Paulo Freire reference. The role of transforming education takes place when the interference in
perception and consciousness and its structure promotes, in the subject, a vigorous intellectual
activity (concepts) are interlaced to affective content (emotions) and socio-political (new skills to
work in the socioenvironmental context). Adopted as the exploratory research methodology. This
study was conducted with 35 students from 14 to 16 years, belonging to 9° year of elementary
school and 1° and 2° years of high school, 4 school teachers, school staff and 10 4 families around
the State School of primary and secondary school "Prof. Hermann Berger". The data were collected
through observation of the researcher with the program's activities, both in school and in the
community of Lutheran confession of Bethlehem when performing actions to participants, and also
through the use of interviews and semi-structured forms. The results demonstrate that the
Environmental education project "Mata Viva of Bethlehem" was able to change the analysis of
perception of the community in relation to social and environmental issues, providing them with
autonomy in decision-making without the need to resort to external agents.
econômico do desenvolvimento vigente.
