Abstract<br />

Anthropogenic actions performed in the environment brought a number of consequences for biota,<br />

requiring a rethinking of society. Environmental education is the main tool of awareness and / or<br />

conservation of natural resources and can <strong>de</strong>fine values, motivations and conduct eco-technology<br />

mo<strong>de</strong>ls of behavior. This study aimed to assess stu<strong>de</strong>nts' perceptions of Elementary Education II on<br />

environment, aiming to make them aware from their experiences and conceptions. Data collection<br />

was based on three steps: a. Structured questionnaires, b. Educational lecture dialogued c. Making<br />

posters. We sampled 75 stu<strong>de</strong>nts (59.87% boys and 40.13% girls), between 10 and 16 years, where<br />

100% live on the periphery. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts were asked about the concept of environment: 86.67% said<br />

they knew the concept. Of these, 58.09% did not answer satisfactorily. And then they were asked if<br />

they did anything that harmed the environment: 43.37% of stu<strong>de</strong>nts reported receiving practices of<br />

aggression to the environment, as meme: [...] we throw trash in the streets do fire. We do all things<br />

that affect the environment [...] Girl (13 years old). About for the fate of household waste: 82.41%<br />

reported clean service streets by the city hall. Later, he was asked whether the population of Serra<br />

Talhada-PE cares about the environment: 74.03% answered no, <strong>de</strong>scribing the meme: [...] because<br />

they kill the plants and throw garbage in scrublands and <strong>de</strong>stroys them [...] Boy (13 years). Finally,<br />

he was asked if he had seen any action harmful to the environment: 32% answered yes, by burning<br />

waste, cutting of trees and water waste. It became clear motivation and involvement in the activity<br />

of the posters, which noticeably aroused a critical look and conscious, portrayed in the illustrations.<br />

Undoubtedly, environmental education serves as a link between man versus nature conscious, a<br />

foundation for human awareness, including them not as spectators, but as subjects.<br />

Introdução<br />

A chegada da revolução industrial possibilitou um aumento <strong>de</strong> renda, fazendo o homem<br />

atuar sobre a natureza não só a fim <strong>de</strong> garantir o sustento, mas com a expectativa <strong>de</strong> obter bens e,<br />

consequentemente lucros (Oliveira et al, 2007). Assim, a gran<strong>de</strong>za do <strong>de</strong>sperdício que a socieda<strong>de</strong><br />

mo<strong>de</strong>rna efetua tem sido um reflexo <strong>de</strong>sse processo <strong>de</strong> industrialização, no qual tem provocado<br />
