1-IFRC Health co-ordinator, Dr.Jari Vainio welcomed the visitors and stated that the purpose of<br />

the meeting was to establish the co-ordination between the different RC/RC parties related to helath<br />

issues. IFRC is an umbrella organisation of all Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. For coordination<br />

and sharing information a weekly medical co-ordination meeting will be organised by the<br />

IFRC e<strong>ve</strong>ry Thursday at 11 am in İzmit, in the offices of the amusement park.<br />

2-Introduction of the Participants and the Projects<br />

Japanese Red Cross Team:<br />

The Japanese Team has arri<strong>ve</strong>d on 19.08.<strong>1999</strong> and is leaving on 21.09.<strong>1999</strong>. The Japanese<br />

hospital is in Uzunciftlik – İzmir and operates with 14 medical staff seeing 100 patients/day. MoH<br />

hospital sees 600 patient/day, and SSK hospital 200 patients/ray. Turkish doctors and translators are<br />

needed.<br />

Spanish Red Cross Team:<br />

The Spanish Team has arri<strong>ve</strong>d on 24.8.<strong>1999</strong>. Two Spanish Clinics operate with consultation,<br />

emergency, and in-patient areas and is in Emirdağ-Adapazarı. The clinics ha<strong>ve</strong> total of 40 beds and are<br />

serving a camp population of 7.000. More doctors are needed with longer rotation periods.<br />

Austrian Red Cross:<br />

Austrian team has arri<strong>ve</strong>d on 24.8.<strong>1999</strong>. Austrian Water Sanitation Team functions as follows:<br />

1-A water treatment plant has been built in Golcuk and produces 200 m 3 water which is<br />

distributed to the camps and the city.<br />

2-Qater sanitation visits and water controls in camps ha<strong>ve</strong> been arranged. Water distribution<br />

system has been built in some camps and drinking water of the hospitals will <strong>ve</strong> analysed.<br />

3-Next Step:Austrian Team plans to build 2 storage tanks in Adapazarı.
