We think the amount is too much. There will
be a transparent bid called for the system
after the National System of Transport
Information concept is re-evaluated. We
assume that the price to be paid for it by
Slovakia will be reasonably lowered than
the said upper assumption of the costs.
■■ What significance is the system of
for common users of roads and city
communications?
The National System of Transport
Information will launch the modern
information technologies in transport. It
will enable the monitoring, assessment
and controlling of the transport procedure
to the extent of time and space in order to
avoid unwished time losses. Concurrently
the system will enable to set up efficiently
the planning of transport infrastructure
construction in compliance with the
realistic transport demands in respective
road sections accordingly.
■■ The Ministry of Transport is preparing
a new strategy in tourism. What does it
differ from the current strategy viewing
the fact that development in tourism is not
corresponding to the existing possibilities?
It is our wish to develop tourism
significantly faster than before. If we
succeed to meet it, it will help entire
Slovakia’s economy a lot. We would like
to promote Slovakia abroad in far-away
countries jointly with the V4-Group
countries. In our opinion it will be better
and more efficient for the entire region. We
would like to back up Slovakia’s promotion
in the neighbouring countries.
■■ Which sectors do you intend to promote?
We wish to promote the sectors we are
good at obviously. We may speak about
the stays in thermal springs areas as there
are sufficient spots of them Slovakia-wide;
and they are available anytime all year
round regardless the weather. Further to
this, we focus on the stays to be spent in
spectacular open nature jointly with ecofriendly
tourism. In winter-time primarily
those who go in for sports centres can be
provided with skiing. Slovakia’s Tatras
Mountains and the High Fatra and the
Low Fatra mountains are deemed to be
undoubtedly the best of the best to the
East from the Alps. Moreover, we mustn’t
forget about weekend tourism which is of
utmost significance, however, it is a rather
neglected segment.

■■ How is the road transport construction in
Slovakia going on?
This year the left line tracking D1
highway Jablonov – Studenec should be
put into operation. In 2013 we are planning
to launch nine kilometre long section of D1
highway Jánovce – Jablonov and fourteen
kilometre section of speed road R4 Košice
– Milhosť into operation.
Preparation stage and implementation
of the most demanding and concurrently
the most costly work portions of D1
highway are in front of us; further to
this the works on three utmost needed
sections of speed road R2, being under
advanced prep stage. We are proceeding
in the project documentation and
working documentation related to further
constructions, e.g. the North – South
interconnection of Slovakia.
■■ What goals have been determined in
railway transport?
Viewing the train transport we are at
the starting point. To establish transport
authority is deemed to be a principal
step to be taken in passenger transport
harmonization. It is aimed at not spending
public resources designed for ensuring
both railway and coach transport in dual
and uncoordinated way. Updating the
railway companies’ revitalization is under
prep stage progress aimed at measures
in making railway transport efficient. We
are determined to reach balanced and
reasonable management of The Railways
of the Slovak Republic already this year if
possible and subsequently to this we are
ready to cover the acknowledged liabilities
of the State towards the railway entities
from the past years by portions.
Concerning the freight transport it
is our ambition to shift goods flows
from overloaded roads to railways due
to capacity and ecological grounds and
to back up the freight railway transport
in market. Gradual balancing between
railway and road transport and starting
the building up the terminals of combined
transport are the two necessities of utmost
importance.
