rise construction must seek to optimally
align the main structural components
with each other: core walls, external columns
and floor structure. Other significant
factors include the space available
on the site and relevant access roads.
These two aspects had to be thoroughly
examined for the TaunusTurm project,
which is situated in the inner city area
of Frankfurt. Cast-in-place construction
requires a lot of storage space whereas
access roads and sufficient crane capacities
are needed for precast elements.
These requirements were met in an optimum
fashion by combining cast-in-situ
core walls with a precast floor structure.
In this context, the columns presented a
key issue with respect to designing the
structural framework. On the one hand,
they had to meet architectural specifications
in terms of dimensions and shapes.
On the other, they should fit into the
overall building system and provide a
sufficiently high load-bearing capacity and fire resistance. Precast
reinforced concrete columns were identified as a suitable option.
The floor structure includes 51 cm high precast prestressed concrete
beams with precast floor slabs and a 9 cm high cast-inplace
concrete infill. The entire floor has a clear-span design and
a height of 60 cm. Building services are routed at the beam level,
which requires many openings in the beams. The prestressed design
significantly enhanced the load-bearing capacity of the structure,
particularly its shear resistance. Compared to the conventional
structure combining steel and composite floors, the precast
design has demonstrated its advantages arising from its lower cost
and from the “end-to-end” precast system including the columns.
Whereas construction time and cost are significantly influenced by
an optimized climbing formwork and the reinforcement ratio in
the case of the cast-in-place core, particular attention must be paid
to the link between the cast-in-situ section and the precast part of
the building (i.e. the connection between the beams and the core).
For the TaunusTurm project, a Peikko steel corbel (the so-called
PC corbel) is used. A structurally sound connection between the
precast beams and the cast-in-place wall is ensured by a sufficient
degree of adjustability and specific measures taken during insertion
in the climbing formwork.
Precast columns with high-strength reinforcing steel
The precast columns should not only ensure a sufficient loadbearing
capacity and fire resistance but also the transfer of loads
through the joints. Although the columns are much more tightly
spaced (at a distance of 2.70 m to each other) compared to conventional
multi-story buildings, the lower third of the building
Deckenkonstruktion aus
Betonfertigteilen
Im Rahmen des oben genannten
TeamConcepts wurde bereits
der Tragwerksentwurf durch die
Zentrale Technik der Ed. Züblin
AG erstellt. Dadurch konnte
schon frühzeitig ein herstellungsgerechtes
Tragwerk konzipiert
werden. Die Besonderheit
des Hochhausbaues liegt in
einer optimalen Abstimmung
der Hauptbauteile Kernwände,
Außenstützen und Deckenkonstruktion.
Dabei sind noch die
örtlichen Platzverhältnisse und
Zufahrtswege von Bedeutung.
Beim TaunusTurm, der zentral
in der City von Frankfurt liegt,
waren beide Aspekte sehr kritisch
zu betrachten. Ortbeton benötigt
viel Lagerplatz, während
Betonfertigteile Zufahrtsmöglichkeiten
und Krankapazitäten
erfordern. Diese Anforderungen
wurden durch die Wahl der
Kernwände in Ortbeton und der
Deckenkonstruktion in Betonfertigteilbauweise
optimal kombiniert.
