According to Marjan Hammersma and Jean Peters, participation and education through the
internet present huge opportunities for European cultural politics. This is the topic of the
third panel discussion of the conference day. Cultural events designed for online use, and
new forms of curating and modernisation are tools that may also benefit traditional forms
of culture. Innovative digital formats, however, still rarely take place in the publicly funded
cultural sector. Is ‘analogue’ the new ‘conservative’?
Carine Bastian presents a possible digital application – connected and collaborative exhibition
concepts for museums and cultural institutions. Meanwhile, art mediation has been
adapted to the mobile devices of the visitors. It is therefore all the more important to ask:
What information can visitors gain on site, which is not available on their mobile devices?
The digital offer is supposed to be an additional service, but it should not replace the actual
cultural experience – irrespective of the kind of content and means of interaction that complement
the artwork.
