We all want to be healthy, beautiful and, as a result,<br />

happier. Dr. med. Robert Stelzer of medical health<br />

company preventiva reveals what you can do to achieve<br />

these goals.<br />

The Skinny Rules are a bit reminiscent of the<br />

eating habits of our ancestors: berries, nuts,<br />

meat – but also a day without meat. And a lot<br />

of movement…<br />

The rules are just as valid today as they were<br />

100,000 years ago. The body and metabolism<br />

function as they did then. In this respect, there<br />

are generally applicable rules that you should<br />

adhere to if you want to achieve certain successes<br />

or changes.<br />

Why is breakfast so important?<br />

Some people believe that you should start<br />

the day on an empty stomach. Others – like<br />

me – think that you should start the day with a<br />

certain amount of calories, that help for example<br />

to prevent hunger pangs during the day.<br />

There is also something called the carbohydrate<br />

combustion problem that can occur if you<br />

don’t supply something to the body in time, i.e.<br />

in the morning. Everyone is different of course,<br />

but if you want to keep up a level of stability in<br />

everyday life, you should start the day with a<br />

conscious breakfast.<br />

How strictly do you have to adhere to the<br />

Skinny Rules in order to achieve success in<br />

the long run?<br />

Every metabolism is different. For some people<br />

it is quick and easy, others have to be very<br />

tough on themselves. The rules help to make<br />

goals easier to achieve.<br />

Can you get and stay slim without exercising?<br />

It is believed that diet is responsible for 70%<br />

of a lean body, so you can say that in theory.<br />

But whether you are also physically fit is a<br />

different story.<br />

What role does sleep play in achieving fitness<br />

goals?<br />

We experience maximum regeneration during<br />

sleep. It’s also when we can burn calories very<br />

effectively without doing anything. A certain<br />

amount of hypoglycaemia and a calorie deficit<br />

also act like a booster for growth hormones.<br />

This fact can be used to burn fat and trigger<br />

regenerative metabolic processes.<br />

And that‘s why you should go to bed hungry?<br />

Exactly. The release of growth hormones is<br />

strongest between 12 noon and 2 am when your<br />

sugar levels are slightly lower, i.e. you have<br />

around 100 milligrams in your blood. (ts,mb)<br />
