5.11 <strong>SAFETY</strong> PRECAUTIONS FOR ROOFING WORK<br />
RIGID strongly recommends that erection employees be continuously trained and re-trained in safe and<br />
productive work practices. Working on the roof area in the installation of roof structurals, insulation or<br />
roof panels requires proper training, correct equipment and constant alertness to minimize the danger of<br />
falls. Hard hats should be wom on job sites to prevent injury from falling objects. Safe work practices on<br />
all erection duties should be carefully reviewed with erection crews prior to beginning each job<br />
NEVER STEP ON SKYLIGHTS OR TRANSLUCENT PANELS!!!!!!<br />
Panels May Collapse If Not Properly Secured<br />
Roof panels must be completely attached to the purlins and to panels on either side before they can be<br />
a safe walking surface. Skylights or translucent panels can never be considered as a walking surface.<br />
Partially attached or unattached panels should never be walked on!<br />
Do Not:<br />
1.Step on rib at edge of panel.<br />
2.Step near crease in rib at edge of panel.<br />
3.Step within 5 feet of edge on unsecured panel.<br />
A single roof panel must never be used as a work platform. An OSHA approved runway should be used<br />
for work platforms! (consult OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for the Construction Industry).<br />
