5.14 SEALING THE SIDELAP<br />

Apply the sidelap tape sealant to the weather side edge of the lower panel’s major rib as shown. The tape<br />

sealant should only be applied to clean, dry surfaces. With the release paper in place, press fi rmly along<br />

the length of the sealant to insure proper adhesion. In removing the protective paper from the tape sealant,<br />

care should be taken not to pull the tape sealant away from the panel. Install the adjoining panel positioning<br />

the overlapping rib with care. Drill, at the center of the clearance holes in the overlapping panel, 1/8“<br />

pilot holes for the lap fasteners. Stitch the lap with the No. 14 self-tapping fasteners supplied with the job.<br />

Never allow the sealant to be placed in other locations.<br />

Use OSHA approved eye protection when operating a drill. Sweep up all<br />

drill shavings from panels at end of each work period to minimize surface<br />

rust and damage to panel fi nish Safety fi rst!.<br />
