Table 10.6 gives the fitted model for negative affect. In this model, the effects for gender, method of recruitment, living arrangements, visibility of main area of concern, salience, valence, appearance discrepancy, disguisability and visibility when clothed are not statistically significant effects. The regression model captures a strong and statistically significant positive association between positive affect and FNE (beta = 0.297, p < .001) and strong and statistically significant negative associations between negative affect and optimism (beta = -0.222, p < .001) and social acceptance (beta = -0.138, p < .001). There are weaker, but statistically significant, negative associations between negative affect and age (beta = -0.068, p = .013) and satisfaction with social support (beta = -0.078, p = .005) and a positive association between negative affect and social comparison (beta = 0.067, p =.016).
