MANY of the praises which good old Izaak Walton bestowed<br />

on the art of angling, and especially those which refer to the<br />

"higher branch" of it, namely to fly-fishing, apply equally<br />

well and suitably to the entomologist's peaceful and gentle<br />

art. "The murmur of the mountain bee" is a good substitute,<br />

at least 'pro tempore,' for the murmur of the purling brook;<br />

to catch a rare Butterfly is, in its way, as great a pleasure<br />

as to catch a trout of three pounds weight, or a fresh-run<br />

salmon of a dozen, and in each case alike you have the enjoy­<br />

ment of the fragrant "scent of hawthorn flowers," and of all the<br />

other charming scents and sights with which the beneficent<br />

Creator has strewed and surrounded the path of those who<br />

will seek them in the country, where His hand has placed<br />

them.<br />

This insect is plentiful throughout the country generally,<br />

but in the neighbourhood of Falmouth it is scarce.<br />

It is found in woods and lanes, and places more immediately<br />

adjacent to them.<br />
