some willows, on the 14th. of September; two on a mulberry<br />
tree in the garden of the vicarage at Stowmarket, Suffolk, and<br />
another in the same neighbourhood about the same date; one<br />
near Ipswich by Mr. Charles Eaton, on the 30th. of August,<br />
1852, and another on the 31st. of the previous year; one in a<br />
garden at Lincoln, in August; one at Heme Hill, Camberwell,<br />
in a garden on the 12th. of September; one at Kensington, on<br />
some ripe fruit, on the 21st. of September; one at Tottenham, in<br />
September; and one seen at Streatham, resting on the sill of<br />
a Avindow. Two were seen at Clapham, Bedfordshire, one on<br />
the 13th. of August, and the other a few weeks later on an<br />
apple tree; another near Woburn, in the same county; and<br />
one was caught at Bronstone Wilderness, near Leicester.<br />
One was seen near Ventnor, in the Isle of Wight, on some fallen<br />
peaches, the 23rd. of August, and two following days; another<br />
near Sea View, about two miles from Ryde, about the same time;<br />
and another betAveen Kingston and Leatherhead, Surrey, pro<br />
bably the same that was shortly afterwards taken at Mickleham.<br />
One was taken at the West India Docks, London, on the 3rd.<br />
of September, and another at Limehouse about the same<br />
time; one near Mickleham; one at Southwell, Nottinghamshire;<br />
one at Saffron Walden, Essex, early in September; and some<br />
taken and others seen in different parts of Norfolk, resorting<br />
to the blossoms of the ivy. One Avas taken on the 5th. of<br />
September, 1846, in the garden of Widmore House, Bromley,<br />
Kent, by A. Henry Taylor, Esq., Avho, I am informed, saw<br />
several others also on the same occasion. In previous years<br />
one was taken near Nottingham; one near Stoke-by-Nayland,<br />
Suffolk; IAVO near Colchester, and one betAveen Dedham and<br />
Colchester, Essex, in the month of August; one at Cromer,<br />
in Norfolk, in the year 1847, by H. Barclay, Esq.; and formerly,<br />
whence its name, at Camberwell.<br />
In Scotland it has been noticed so far north as Ayrshire.<br />
The butterfly appears in the beginning of August, and, like<br />
others of its class, occasionally survives through the Avinter, and<br />
re-appears after its long sleep, with the advance of the ne\v year.<br />
