I HAVE taken this species in plenty at Pinhay Cliff, Devon<br />
shire; an "old familiar spot," near Lyme Regis, Dorsetshire.<br />
Other localities for it are Sywell Wood, near Northampton,<br />
Barnwell and Ashton Wold, and the neighbourhood of Polebrook,<br />
Northamptonshire; Raydon Wood, very abundantly, and other<br />
woods, near Colchester, Essex; Great BedAvyn and Sarum,<br />
Wiltshire; Yarmouth, in the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, Bewdley,<br />
Worcestershire, as also in various parts of Kent, Hertford, Dur<br />
ham, Cambridge, Northumberland, and the south of Scotland.<br />
It appears the end of May, and beginning of June.<br />
The caterpillar feeds on the teazel, (Dipsacus syhestris.)<br />
In this very pretty little species, which is just about an inch<br />
in width, the fore wings are very dark broAvnish black, marked
