between which and the margin is a pale interrupted waved<br />
streak. The hind wings have a slender interrupted brown line<br />
near the edge, succeeded on the inside by four more or less<br />
distinct eyelets, and two very slender dark lines near the margin,<br />
which is lilac-coloured.<br />
Underneath, the fore Avings are elegantly varied with white,<br />
orange, broAA r n, and pink, with tAvo eyes near the tip. The<br />
hind Avings are brown near the outside, with two very large<br />
eyes margined with black; and between these and the margin<br />
are waved streaks of lilac, broAvn, and Avhite. The margin<br />
Avhite.<br />
The caterpillar is differently said by some to be green with<br />
black rings round the body, and by others brown with the<br />
segments and a line along the side yellow, and two lines along<br />
the back formed alternately of white and red points.<br />
The chrysalis state is said to continue ten days. It is placed<br />
in the leaves of plants folded and spun together.<br />
