expand services for drug <strong>use</strong>rs, and build<br />

<strong>the</strong> capacity of drug <strong>use</strong>rs to advocate for<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir human rights .<br />

Summary<br />

Through advocacy, <strong>the</strong> Thai <strong>Drug</strong> Users Network<br />

(TDN) hopes to raise awareness <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Thai population of <strong>the</strong> importance of protect<strong>in</strong>g<br />

drug <strong>use</strong>rs and those around <strong>the</strong>m from<br />

HIV, hepatitis and o<strong>the</strong>r illnesses as well as<br />

of <strong>the</strong> reality of drug <strong>use</strong>rs’ lives, a key to<br />

reduc<strong>in</strong>g population misconceptions and<br />

prejudices aga<strong>in</strong>st drug <strong>use</strong>rs .<br />

In addition <strong>the</strong> TDN’s work will also revitalise<br />

Thailand’s National Harm Reduction Task<br />

Force, a body represent<strong>in</strong>g government,<br />

local and national NGOs, and <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

agencies, with <strong>the</strong> mandate to review and<br />

recommend improvements for drug policy<br />

<strong>in</strong> Thailand . The Task Force is also active<br />

<strong>in</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> public’s understand<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

drug policy issues and develop<strong>in</strong>g technical<br />

guidel<strong>in</strong>es for opiate substitution and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

programs .<br />
