Bod y bright orange-colour : mantle haying its edges over-<br />

lapping one another in front : tentacles of different lengths,<br />

ringed or verticillate as in some Nudibranchs, and arranged<br />

in several irregular rows ; the front row is folded back over<br />

the outer edge of the shell : foot cylindrical and extensile,<br />

reddish-orange.<br />

Shell rhomboidal, twisted to one side, extremely convex,<br />

thin, rather glossy : sculpture, 50-60 very fine and sharp ribs<br />

or fluted striae, which radiate from the beaks to the front and<br />

sides, but become faint or absent on the sides and near the<br />

hinge ; the ribs are slightly flexuous and of unequal size,<br />

often alternately large and small, or two or three small ribs<br />

between some of the larger ones; there are also the same<br />

microscopical transverse lines as in L. subauriculata and other<br />

species, producing a similar serrature or corrugation of the<br />

ribs : colour snow-white : margins thin, oblique, bluntly<br />

rounded in front, ventral edge compressed and nearly straight,<br />

posterior edge rounded and sloping from the front and hingeline<br />

to an obtuse angle about one-third down; the valves<br />

when closed gape a little on the upper part of the dorsal side :<br />

beaks extremely prominent and gibbous, projecting considerably<br />

beyond the hinge : ears triangular and veiy small, wrinkled<br />

in the line of : growth cartilage large and yellow : ligament<br />

thin, olive-green: hinge-line nearly straight, slightly<br />

curved outwards : hinge-plate narrow and sharp : cartilagearea<br />

broad ; triangular space on each side of the beaks and<br />

within the ears small, but supported by a stout and somewhat<br />

incurved : ledge<br />

though faintly) the impression of the outside ribs ;<br />

gin crenulated in young, but thickened in adult specimens :<br />
