Body nearly oval, thick, yellowish-white : mantle flesh-<br />

colour or reddish-white ; edges plain and white : tubes short,<br />

united at their base and divergent at the point of separation,<br />

pale yellow, marked with flake-white spots and lines ;<br />

current tube is rather the shorter of the two, but wider, and it<br />

has its orifice encircled by about 20 yellowish-white cirri of<br />

different lengths, each having a dull red-brown line round its<br />

base ; the excurrent tube has a plain orifice, with the usual<br />

retractile valve, which is marked on the upper and lower<br />

surface with a faint red -brown line, a few spots of the same<br />

colour surrounding the orifice of this tube ; the sides of both<br />

tubes and the posterior side of the animal are clothed with<br />

thick-set pale reddish-brown and light-yellow curled filaments<br />

: gilh suboval, pale brown, with the edges of a deeper<br />

hue, unequal-sized (as in the other species) but hanging more<br />

vertically : palps very long, triangular, more deeply striated<br />

on the outside than within : foot long and powerful, cylindrical,<br />

geniculate, pointed at the extremity, covered (except at<br />

the point) with a thin fleshcolour film, resembling shagreen<br />

in appearance, under which it is pure white. The colour of<br />

the different parts of the body varies in intensity and its rela-<br />

tive hues, according to the age<br />
