The U.S. average annual dose to an individual from consumer products and activities is about<br />

13 mrem (0.13 mSv), ranging between 0.1 and 40 mrem (0.001 and 0.4 mSv). Cigarette smoking<br />

accounts for about 35% of this dose. Other important sources are building materials (27%), commercial<br />

air travel (26%), mining and agriculture (6%), miscellaneous consumer-oriented products (3%),<br />

combustion of fossil fuels (2%), highway and road construction materials (0.6%), and glass and ceramics<br />
