The printer is considered a slave unit and has the properties shown below. A typical part for interfacing to the MBD is the Motorola 4N28. MDB Communications Communications protocol and commands are covered in section 5.0 of the "Extemal Vending Device" specification. The commands supported by the pdnter controller are defined in 3.3.3.1. Since many of the commands are not intended for a printing device, a subset of the commands will be supported. The MBD specification defines the device address for all External Vending Devices (EVDs) of which the printeris a member. Up to 2 printers may be present on the MBD interface simultaneously; option switch setting #2 allows the printer to be configured as printing device #1 or printing device #2. SW# 1 Description Default Chooses whether the printer communicates via Open MBD port or RS232 program port. Open=MBD port, Closed=Program port. Chooses which device address the printer Open responds to. Open = Printer 1; Closed = Printer 2. 3,5 Printed Circuit Board Physical Description The printed circuit board (PCB) will contain all the control and interface electronics as well as the interface connectors for the print mechanism, MBD port and program port.
