ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I take this opportunity to thank the people who were involved, directly or indirectly, in helping me complete this research thesis. It would not have been possible to write it without the grace of the Divine Master and of my father. This thesis was a great learning experience for me and has evolved me into a responsible person. Above all, I owe a debt of gratitude to my principal supervisor, Dr BeomCheol (Peter) Kim, for his help, support and patience in enriching me with abundant knowledge.
