NURSING PRIORITY NO. 3. To promote wellness (Teaching/<br />

Discharge Considerations):<br />

• Review individual risk factors and provide information to<br />

assist the client with motivation and decision making.<br />

• Consult with dietitian/nutritionist about specific nutrition/<br />

dietary issues.<br />

• Provide information to new mothers about nutrition for<br />

developing babies.<br />

• Encourage client to make a decision to lead an active life and<br />

control food habits.<br />

• Assist client in learning to be in touch with own body and to<br />

identify feelings that may provoke “comfort eating,” such as<br />

anger, anxiety, boredom, sadness.<br />

• Develop a system for self-monitoring to provide a sense of<br />

control and enable the client to follow own progress and<br />

assist with making choices.<br />

• Refer to support groups and appropriate community<br />

resources for education/behavior modification, as indicated.<br />

• Long-range needs, noting who is responsible for actions to be<br />

taken.<br />
