NANDA-I’s Taxonomy II<br />

The 13 domains and their classes are:<br />

Domain 1 Health Promotion: The awareness of well-being or<br />

normality of function and the strategies used to maintain<br />

control of and enhance that well-being or normality of<br />

function<br />

Class 1 Health Awareness: Recognition of normal<br />

function and well-being<br />

Class 2 Health Management: Identifying, controlling,<br />

performing, and integrating activities to maintain<br />

health and well-being<br />

Domain 2 Nutrition: The activities of taking in, assimilating,<br />

and using nutrients for the purposes of tissue maintenance,<br />

tissue repair, and the production of energy<br />

Class 1 Ingestion: Taking food or nutrients into the<br />

body<br />

Class 2 Digestion: The physical and chemical activities<br />

that convert foodstuffs into substances suitable<br />

for absorption and assimilation<br />

Class 3 Absorption: The act of taking up nutrients<br />

through body tissues<br />

Class 4 Metabolism: The chemical and physical<br />

processes occurring in living organisms and cells<br />

for the development and use of protoplasm, production<br />

of waste and energy, with the release of energy<br />

for all vital processes<br />

Class 5 Hydration: The taking in and absorption of<br />

fluids and electrolytes<br />

Domain 3 Elimination: Secretion and excretion of waste products<br />

from the body<br />

Class 1 Urinary Function: The process of secretion,<br />

reabsorption, and excretion of urine<br />

Class 2 Gastrointestinal Function: The process of<br />

absorption and excretion of the end products of<br />

digestion<br />

Class 3 Integumentary Function: The process of<br />

secretion and excretion through the skin<br />

Class 4 Respiratory Function: The process of<br />

exchange of gases and removal of the end products<br />

of metabolism<br />
